In 1988, the Heather family established the Heather Mortuary & Chapel in Tucson, Arizona. Prior to opening this funeral home, the Heather family had operated another Heather Funeral Home for many years in Lordsburg, New Mexico.

In December 1992, Heather Mortuary & Chapel was purchased by an affiliate of Service Corporation International, and ultimately became a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
